Veterans course.pngA new training course for military veterans in the Black Country is set to launch at the end of January. The Moving Forwards: Building a Brighter Future course is being delivered by The Recovery College at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and by experts and peers trained by the leading Armed Forces and veterans’ charity, Help for Heroes.

The course aims to equip veterans with skills to understand the true impact of their military experience and to move forward in their recovery journey as a civilian. Focus will be placed on both psychological and physical wellbeing tools to ensure students can navigate life's challenges and build a brighter future.

It is suitable for all military veterans, regardless of when or where you served, and may be particularly useful for those veterans who have recently served or are preparing to transition to civilian life.

We understand that some people may face difficulties when starting a new life after leaving the military. Finding work, somewhere to live, a purpose, and a place in society, can feel overwhelming. This training course, in a supportive environment, will give veterans the tools to navigate these challenges for the next chapter in their life.

The course will also help to signpost people to health and mental health support, employment and other services, as well as community groups and networks that may benefit them.

Kirsty Barnes, Business Development and Sustainability Manager for The Recovery College is one of the team who has been instrumental in bringing the course to the Black Country. Speaking about the opportunity, she said:

“We are excited to deliver the Veterans’ Moving Forwards: Building a Brighter Future course and encourage anyone who has an interest in coming along and joining us, to call me and get more information.

The training team are a lovely bunch of people that have a wide range of experiences and include both veterans and civilians. The sessions will be relaxed and comfortable for you with an “all in it together” approach. We want everyone who attends the course to get the most benefit from attending”

The course starts on Monday 27 January to Monday 24 February then Monday 31 March to Monday 7 April at The Recovery College’s Walsall campus. Each of the six sessions is around three hours. Digital access is also available.
