Today (6 March 2024) we held our Trust Board meeting at Penn Bowling Club. Here are some of the key topics covered in the meeting.
We welcomed Martin, supported by Matt Petchey, our patient experience lead, who provided a very raw and honest reflection of his mental health journey. He reflected on the impact the length of time it has taken to reach a diagnosis and the importance of his relationship with his community psychiatric nurse. The Board listened how Martin’s wife and children have been a great source of support and considered how the Trust can better support families.
Martin now supports others as a lived experience consultant, proving advice to both patients and staff and helping us become a truly learning organisation.
The Board discussed the on boarding of our international nurses and the importance of supporting them into the Trust and our community. They thanked everyone involved in this piece of work and welcomed our new colleagues to the Trust.
Another topic of discussion at the meeting was the development of our new Clinical Strategy. This document sets the Trust ambition for redesigning services. Keep an eye on our website for ways on how you can give your views to help shape our services
Emerging themes through this work include:
- Culture
- Clinical capacity and demand
- Clinical model of care
- Collaboration
- Embedding learning and improvement
- Professional standards and leadership
The Board also received a progress update for the under 19 family healthcare services in Dudley, which are transferring over to Shropshire Healthcare from April. They heard how we are supporting staff through the change and other work to align policies and move over risks and incident reporting to Shropshire. They said thank you to staff for their commitment, professionalism and reliance over the years and go with the Trust, and wanted to share their best wishes when they transfer over.
A number of our core governance documents were reviewed, including our Board Assurance Framework, high level risk register, compliance with NHS England’s corporate governance code and Provider Licence. These set out how we manage the Trust and the rules we must follow also how we cope with the risks in delivering care and our strategies.
