For all the hard work our nurses do, it is equally important that we do all we can to support our own wellbeing as well as the wellbeing and care of our nursing colleagues.

We know that when staff take time to connect, reflect and switch off – even briefly – it makes a difference. Therefore, we encourage every team to mark International Nurses Day in their own way.

It doesn’t need to be big or complicated. A short tea break, a walk, some shared snacks or a chance to recognise each other’s hard work – it all counts.

5 Ways to celebrate

  1. We’ve put together a short How to Celebrate’ guide with some simple ideas to get you started. You’ll find it here
  2. Once you’ve got something in mind, tell us what you’re planning via our quick MS Form. Where possible we will try and arrange a visit from one of our senior nursing leaders.
  3. We are hosting celebration events at key sites across the Trust starting the week of the 12th. Carolyn Green, Chief Nurse and other senior leaders will be present to celebrate your work and chat. Join us for a special wellbeing drop-in event at Penn Hospital on 12 May from 9:30am – 3:30pm. All staff are invited. Free parking is available nearby. Find out more at
