We’ve produced a guide to help make things easier for when you leave hospital. It has useful information on community services in the Black Country, along with contact details for support.

Mental Health Support

If you feel like you need to access face-to-face support out of usual mental health service hours, then you can visit the Sanctuary Hubs, available within each of the boroughs of the Black Country.

The Sanctuary Hubs can provide emotional support to those in distress, in need of reassurance or at times when people need to be listened to most.

You must be aged 18+ and live in or be registered with a GP in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall or Wolverhampton.

 

The Sanctuary Hubs are available:

• Monday – Friday, 6pm – 11pm

• Saturday and Sunday, 12noon – 11pm

Homelessness and Housing support

If you live in the Dudley Borough and are having difficulty maintaining your home or tenancy, you can receive help which is free, impartial and totally confidential from Dudley Council.

The free and confidential telephone service is open to any resident in the Dudley Borough.

Sandwell Council’s first priority is to prevent you from losing your home, so the earlier you get in touch, the more successful they are likely to be.

There is a host of information available on the Sandwell Council website, to assist you in either preventing your homelessness or assisting if you are already homeless.

This may be for the following reasons:

  • Private Tenancy Ending (including Section 21, Section 8)
  • Parents or relatives have asked you to leave
  • Mortgage arrears
  • Relationship Breakdown
  • Care Leaver
  • Ex Armed Forces

If you are threatened with homelessness and have somewhere to stay for the next couple of weeks, you can register directly into the service as homeless by using Jigsaw.

This is a quicker way to refer into the service, also allowing you to track the progress of your case, upload documents and detail in your own words the full reason and useful information to consider your situation.

Registering as homeless through the Jigsaw website is quick and simple.

Register online and select the option ‘Register as Homeless’,

choose Sandwell Council from the list of local authorities provided.

If you are homeless and you have nowhere to stay tonight or you are in imminent danger, please call the Housing Solutions Team.

If you have somewhere safe to stay, even if this is temporary, please contact us during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am - 5.30pm).

Walsall Council can help you if you are homeless or at risk of being homeless. They can offer you financial support to cover your rent, and help you find somewhere to live.

They can also help you rebuild your life if you are homeless or working in the sex trade.

You may be legally homeless if:

  • You’ve no legal right to live in accommodation anywhere in the world
  • You cannot get into your home, for example your landlord has locked you out
  • It’s not reasonable to stay in your home, for example you’re at risk of violence or abuse
  • You’re forced to live apart from your family or people you normally live with because there’s no suitable accommodation for you
  • You’re living in very poor conditions such as overcrowding

Walsall Council can offer you:

  • Emergency housing
  • Support to find longer-term housing
  • Help so you can stay in your home

The type of help you can get depends on:

  • Your eligibility for help
  • If you’re in priority need
  • What caused you to become homeless

Wolverhampton Council aim to prevent homelessness wherever possible and to relieve it where a person or family is already homeless.

Services across the city offer advice and support about housing options and accommodation solutions to those that are homeless, those who may be at risk of losing their home or who have urgent housing needs.

Refugees and Migrants

The Refugee and Migrant Centre (RMC) and Brushstrokes are charity organisations which provide a free service for support and advice for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

If you need help, you are required to attend drop-in sessions at the centres for support with: immigration, employment, housing, education and integration advice.

The Recovery College

The Recovery College provides a supportive educational learning environment for people who have an interest in, or personal challenges with mental health.

Our courses celebrate successes, building on your skills and strengths! We promote messages of hope, choice, and opportunity for all and aim to help people build lives beyond services.

You can self-enrol or self-refer to the Recovery College.

Please note we do not accept professional referrals.

The Recovery College is an adult (18+) service for individuals that have a GP in or live in the Black Country.

Anyone with an interest in mental health recovery can join the Recovery College, including people with experience of mental health challenges, carers, family members, friends, and professionals.

We deliver classroom (face-to-face) and digital courses (using Zoom).

Timetable / schedule of courses are available for each term.

We have four campuses:
